A qualification in using AI, not in building it

Most AI training sold to people in work teaches a tool. It is useful for a month and then the tool changes. These two qualifications are built the other way round: what AI actually is, how to get something usable out of it, where the data underneath it comes from, and what responsible use looks like when it is your employer's work and your name on it.

Nothing here asks you to write code. The units are about judgement, and judgement is what survives the next release of whichever tool your workplace happens to use.

Two qualifications, and the second contains the first

The Award is four units and 60 guided learning hours: Introduction to AI, The use of AI tools and prompts, Data and AI systems, and Ethical and responsible use of AI in the workplace.

The Certificate is those same four plus two more, giving six units and 100 guided learning hours: Human oversight when working with AI systems, and Continuous learning in AI for the workplace. It is a nested suite, so the Certificate is the Award with the two extra units on top rather than a different course.

The two added units are the ones an employer tends to care about most. One is about knowing when to step in and who is accountable when a system gets it wrong. The other is about keeping up on purpose as the tools change.

How it is assessed when there is no exam

You build a portfolio of evidence against the assessment criteria for each unit. It is marked here and then quality assured externally by NCFE, and the grade is Achieved or Not yet achieved. There is no pass, merit or distinction, and there is no exam to sit.

Not yet achieved means exactly that. Work that does not meet a criterion comes back with what is missing, and you add to it. Nothing is failed on a single day.

No work placement is required for either qualification, which is why both are delivered wholly online and at your own pace, with no term dates and no timetable.

Who these are for

People whose work already involves AI whether they chose it or not: administrators, marketers, customer service teams, teachers, and people in small businesses who are automating a process or two and want to do it properly.

The minimum age is 14 and no prior qualifications are needed, although a Level 1 digital qualification is useful preparation. Entry is at the centre's discretion, and learners under 18 are enrolled under the school's arrangements for young learners.

Progression is on to Level 2 and Level 3 digital and data qualifications. These are Level 2 qualifications, so they do not carry UCAS points.
