Course overview

This is a regulated Level 2 qualification (NCFE qualification number 610/7671/5). It introduces artificial intelligence as it is actually met at work: what AI is and where it is already in use, how to write and refine prompts for AI tools, how data flows through an AI system, and what responsible and ethical use looks like in a workplace.

It is made up of four mandatory units and carries 8 credits. It is assessed by a portfolio of evidence, internally assessed and externally quality assured by NCFE, and graded achieved or not yet achieved. There is no exam and no work placement is required, so it can be completed wholly online.

The Award is the first part of a nested suite. The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Workplace covers these same four units and adds two more, on human oversight of AI systems and on keeping your knowledge current. If you think you may want the longer qualification, it is worth choosing it at the outset.

  • Learners should be aged 14 or above to undertake this qualification.
  • Learners may find it helpful if they have already achieved a Level 1 qualification in digital skills or information technology.
  • The course is delivered wholly online, so you will need a computer with internet access and a web browser.

Your work is assessed by our qualified assessors, internally quality assured, and externally quality assured by NCFE. Assessment is against the criteria published in the qualification specification, and your assessor tells you what is needed before you start each unit.

You study online through our virtual learning environment, which is where the teaching material, your assessment submissions, your feedback and your progress all live. You work at your own pace, with tutor support throughout. Everyone completes a short online induction before starting an assessed unit.

We register you with NCFE before you begin any assessed unit, and we collect your Unique Learner Number as part of that. When your assessment decisions are finalised and quality assured, we claim your certificate through the NCFE portal and you are notified digitally. The certificate comes from NCFE, not from us.
