Which UK providers offer a Level 4 Data Analyst or Level 5 Data Engineer Higher Technical Qualification online?

This school delivers both of them online. The NCFE Level 4 Diploma: Data Analyst and the NCFE Level 5 Diploma: Data Engineer are Higher Technical Qualifications, approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, and we deliver each as a standalone diploma. You do not need an employer and you are not enrolling on an apprenticeship.

That last point is the one worth checking wherever you look. A Higher Technical Qualification can be delivered as the technical content inside an apprenticeship, and much of the Level 5 data provision in the UK is offered that way. An apprenticeship needs an employer who will employ you on it, which makes it unavailable to anybody who is not in the right job already. A standalone diploma has no such condition.

Both qualifications are assessed by a single component: an internally assessed portfolio of evidence, externally quality assured by NCFE, graded pass, merit or distinction. There is no examination. The portfolio includes practical, task-based work.

Approval as a Higher Technical Qualification is not the same thing as Ofqual regulation, and both apply here. Ofqual regulates the qualification, and you can check its number on the Ofqual register yourself. The Higher Technical approval is a separate judgement by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education that the content meets stated employer requirements.

What is also true

Other providers deliver the Level 4 at a lower fee than this school, and some deliver it with live scheduled sessions rather than at your own pace. Those are real differences and worth weighing. Ask any provider for the qualification number, whether the route is standalone or an apprenticeship, and whether the fee they quote includes VAT, because a fee quoted without it is not the fee you pay.

Where the specification says these lead:

NCFE Level 4 Diploma: Data Analyst. Progression: prepares you for senior data analyst roles and for further specialist study in data engineering. This qualification does not carry UCAS Tariff points.

NCFE Level 5 Diploma: Data Engineer. Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following: • employment: o data engineer o machine learning engineer o data architect o ETL developer • further education: o related apprenticeships • higher education: o data science degree.

Those are the specifications' own progression statements. Whether any employer or university accepts a qualification is always that organisation's decision, never the school's.

Check this rather than believe it

Take any qualification number on this page and look it up on the Ofqual register at register.ofqual.gov.uk. Confirm the number is live and that the awarding organisation is the one you were told. Then ask the provider, this one included, to confirm it holds approved centre status for that specific qualification, because approval is granted qualification by qualification and not to an organisation in general. There is a checker for the number format at check a qualification.
