Staff Recruitment, Induction, and CPD Policy

19.1 Purpose and Scope
This policy ensures that all staff involved in the delivery, assessment, and quality assurance of NCFE qualifications are appropriately recruited, qualified, inducted, and supported through ongoing CPD, including skills specific to online teaching and assessment. All recruitment, induction, and CPD activities are conducted remotely.
19.2 Safer Recruitment
A written job description and person specification is produced for every role.
All applications are reviewed against objective criteria.
Interviews are conducted via video conference and include safeguarding-related questions.
All successful candidates provide proof of identity and right to work in the UK.
An Enhanced DBS check is obtained for all staff with learner contact before they begin.
A minimum of two professional references are obtained before appointment.
A Single Central Register (SCR) of all pre-employment checks is maintained and available to NCFE upon request.
19.3 Staff Roles and Minimum Qualifications

| Designated Safeguarding Lead | Level 3 DSL qualification; online safeguarding training |
| Head of Centre | Relevant management experience; knowledge of NCFE compliance requirements |
19.4 Online Induction
All new staff complete an online induction within their first two weeks, covering:
The VLE and all digital tools used in delivery
NCFE Centre Agreement obligations and key policies
Online safeguarding and the DSL's contact details
Data protection and GDPR in a remote context
Online assessment integrity and malpractice prevention
Digital accessibility requirements
Communication standards and boundaries with learners
Completion of induction is recorded on the staff portal.
19.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
All delivery and assessment staff undertake a minimum of 30 hours of CPD per year, which must include:
At least 5 hours related to online teaching and digital assessment practice
Any updates to the NCFE qualifications they deliver
Annual refreshers in safeguarding, data protection, and equality
Attendance at NCFE standardisation and administration events
CPD is recorded on the staff portal and reviewed annually by the Head of Centre.
19.6 Performance and Development
All delivery staff have an annual appraisal conducted via video call, reviewing performance, identifying development needs, and setting objectives for the coming year. Where performance concerns are identified, a support and improvement plan is put in place.
