Staff Recruitment, Induction, and CPD Policy

19.1 Purpose and Scope

This policy ensures that all staff involved in the delivery, assessment, and quality assurance of NCFE qualifications are appropriately recruited, qualified, inducted, and supported through ongoing CPD, including skills specific to online teaching and assessment. All recruitment, induction, and CPD activities are conducted remotely.

19.2 Safer Recruitment

A Single Central Register (SCR) of all pre-employment checks is maintained and available to NCFE upon request.

19.3 Staff Roles and Minimum Qualifications

Role Minimum Qualification
Online Tutor / Assessor Relevant sector qualification; assessor award (TAQA/A1/CAVA) or working towards one
Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) IQA award (TAQA/V1/IQA) or working towards one
Examinations Officer Training in NCFE Portal administration and JCQ/NCFE exams officer guidance
Online Invigilator NCFE/JCQ online invigilation training
Designated Safeguarding Lead Level 3 DSL qualification; online safeguarding training
Head of Centre Relevant management experience; knowledge of NCFE compliance requirements

19.4 Online Induction

All new staff complete an online induction within their first two weeks, covering:

19.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

All delivery and assessment staff undertake a minimum of 30 hours of CPD per year, which must include:

CPD is recorded on the staff portal and reviewed annually by the Head of Centre.

19.6 Performance and Development

All delivery staff have an annual appraisal conducted via video call, reviewing performance, identifying development needs, and setting objectives for the coming year. Where performance concerns are identified, a support and improvement plan is put in place.
