Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy
Data and AI School of London, NCFE Approved Centre
Policy Owner: Head of Centre
Version: 1.0 | Date: April 2026 | Review: April 2027
NCFE Risk Level: High
Mode of Delivery: Fully Online
5.1 Purpose and Scope
The Data and AI School of London is committed to creating an online learning environment in which every learner and member of staff is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. This policy applies to all learners, all staff, and all aspects of the school's operations including curriculum design, recruitment, delivery, assessment, and administration.
5.2 Legal Framework
The school complies with the Equality Act 2010 and recognises the nine protected characteristics:
Age
Disability
Gender reassignment
Marriage and civil partnership
Pregnancy and maternity
Race
Religion or belief
Sex
Sexual orientation
The school will not discriminate, directly or indirectly, on the basis of any of these characteristics and will take reasonable steps to adjust for learners with disabilities.
5.3 Commitments
The Data and AI School of London commits to:
Ensuring all online learning materials comply with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
Providing captions and transcripts for all video-based learning content
Using inclusive language and diverse examples within curriculum content
Reviewing enrolment and achievement data annually, disaggregated by protected characteristic
Making reasonable adjustments to assessment and delivery (Policy 12)
Addressing reports of discriminatory behaviour promptly, fairly, and confidentially
5.4 Digital Inclusion
The school recognises that access to the internet and suitable technology is not universal. At enrolment, learners confirm they have access to a suitable device and reliable internet. Where a learner discloses lack of access, the school will provide guidance on free or low-cost connectivity options, consider alternative assessment submission formats, and monitor the learner's progress. Digital exclusion is treated as a potential form of indirect disadvantage under the Equality Act 2010.
5.5 Reporting Discrimination
Any learner or staff member who believes they have experienced discrimination, harassment, or victimisation may report this through the complaints process (Policy 3), directly to the Head of Centre by email, or anonymously via the school's online reporting tool where available. All reports will be investigated promptly and impartially.
5.6 Staff Training
All staff receive EDI awareness training at induction and annually thereafter. Online delivery staff additionally receive training on digital accessibility and supporting learners with disabilities in a remote learning environment.
5.7 Monitoring and Review
The Head of Centre reviews enrolment, engagement, and achievement data annually, broken down by protected characteristic where lawfully available. Findings inform improvements to delivery, materials, and support. This policy is reviewed annually.
This policy is reviewed annually. Next review: April 2027. Approved by: Head of Centre. © Data and AI School of London, April 2026. NCFE Approved Centre.
